There's an interesting article on Forbes.com about Robert Jordan and his next novel - A Memory of Light. In it, there is the possibility raised that, if RJ is unable to complete the novel due to his problems with the Amyloidosis, that another person might complete this novel and with it the entire WoT series. What I was wondering was, what do people thing of this possiblilty, seeing as the average life span of untreated sufferers is only about 12 months and with treatment about 4 years.

Personally, I would still buy the novel. I've come too far to not see the end of the story. However, I hope that it does not come to this, and I don't know if anyone else (even his wife Harriet) could truly do the story the justice that it deserves.

I heard somewhere (i hav no idea where so no idea how close to the truth it might be) that he has written the basics of the final book in the series & is stretching it out as long as possible with the intention of his son (does he even hav a son??) completing it once he dies...

This is very frustrating to me, I started reading the series nearly 10 years ago & have re-read it 3 times now (when a new book has come out) & as much as i luv the story & dont want it to end, i wanna know what happens & dont wanna wait annother 10 years to find out! lol...

All along he has said that he has known how the final book will go, and how it will end. I don't think that he would want to drag it out too much... I remember when he was out here several years ago he mentioned that he wanted to finish the series so that he could move onto other projects. This was at the release of a Path of Daggers, and since then the pace of the books has picked up.

Also, according his blog at Dragonmount, he has been doing almost no writing since he contracted Amyloidosis. The last timeframe for the release of a Memory of Light I can recall is finished in 2008, and published in 2009.

Considering all that he is going through at the moment, I'm willing to wait as long as it takes. Just hoping that he is the one who will finish it, and not somebody else.

Just checked wikipedia, and there's no mention of children there. Also, don't recall any mention of children in his blog entries. Just himself & Harriet.

Further to this, there's great news about Robert Jordan over on his blog... It's starting to really look like he might have beaten (at least into remission) his Amylodosis.

The latest news on Robert Jordan's blog is that while may see a prologue for A Memory of Light within months, he doesn't expect the book to be finished until after Christmas.

More details on both book and health can be found at

Can't say I've ever heard of him before. Hopefully he will be able to do the final book justice and finish what is truly an epic piece of fantasy literature.

Its unfortunate that its not going to be released until 2009... am looking forward to seeing how it all finishes.
