Post subject:  Suggestions for books for the review group

G'day all

Each month we choose one Fantasy novel and one Science Fiction novel to read for our review group.

I would like to request suggestions from Forum Members as to possible books for review at future meetings. We currently have books selected to November.

So, if you have a suggestion or three, then pop it here and we'll check out the (hopeful) list at each months meeting!

I have just started reading For Love of Mother Not by Alan Dean Foster
It is a relatively short SF novel, by an author with a long list of published novels and strong readership following. Surely, these would be good criteria for selecting review books.

You two are probably going to roll your eyes at this, but I still think 'The Company of The Dead' would be a good book. It's got a good story to it aswell as interesting character developements. It's a heavy tome of a book, so set yourself ample time to read it.

If we go with it, will you attend?

It would have to depend on my schedule at the time, but I would have to say that I would put a fair amount of effort into attending.

More to the point, when's a good time for you to make it, and we can schedule the book in for that month.

Am I allowed to attend?
Or would that be considered poor form?
I will behave myself...

Of course you're allowed to attend. :) The more the merrier I say!

The books for this month are listed on the site, but off the top of my head it's Fear Factor and Dhampire. Meeting's on the 18th October. If you have a chance to read one of the books prior to the meeting, that would be great.

It would be great to have another persons suggestions on books that we can read for future months as well.

Keep smiling :D and hopefully we'll see you at a meeting soon.

Right: I want Company of the Dead as the next science fiction title for the group. David and CyberController must attend, sorry, are welcome.
The December meeting would be the earliest, but perhaps this will be a challenge to find time for.

If Company of Dead is pretty heavy to read can we read it for January, and pick a light weight fantasy book to go with it? Of course Cyber controller and David are welcome to attend the October - December meetings in preperation for the January meeting.

January is fine by me for Company of the Dead as the SF title.

G'day all

I dropped by the shop last Saturday to bug Tim for a while and pick up my copy of Old Man's War. Whilst I was there I decided to have a browse for some future review group books. Ursula Le Guin, Earthsea Quartet

C.E. Murphy, Urban Shaman, book 1 of Walker Series
No URL as it doesn't appear to be in stock... may be out of print
Fantasy / Romance

Vicki Pettersson, The Scent of Shadows, book 1 of Sign of the Zodiac

Phillip Pullman, Northern Lights, book 1 of His Dark Materials
Fantasy / Young Adult
Just coming out as the film The Goldern Compas

Science Fiction (not sure which is the first book in this series...)

David Sherman & Dan Cragg, First to fight book 1 of Starfist

Sarah Zettel, A Sorcerers Treason, book 1 of Isavalta

Ok, so I think that's got me covered for all the books I haven't suggested over the last couple of months, and possibly for the next couple of months as well! I even found a couple of non-fantasy books to suggest! :)
