Tim

I'm trying to attach an Avatar to my profile... and it keeps coming up as an X on my screen for the image. I know fastideo has an avatar that's working. Any suggestions?

Keep smiling

Jay

Um, I haven't uploaded an avatar...
Fastideo, you would know how...

Jay, are you trying to do this by uploading an image or by pointing through to an image on another URL? When I uploaded my avatar, all I did was select the image from my desktop and upload it and it was working.

If it's a URL, could you message me the URL? Otherwise, if it's an image on your PC, if you would like (and Tim doesn't mind) email it to Tim and get him to forward it to me and I'll have a shot at uploading it onto your account for you.

Tim / Fastideo

I've tried uploading the image directly from my computer and from the URL and all I'm getting is the X where the image should be when I go back to look at it (so I delete it after that!).

I'd prefer to be able to upload the image directly from my computer, that way I can change it when I want to (bit like changing my hair colour... needs to be done everynow and again!). When I first joined the site I had a unicorn uploaded as my image, but when I dropped in to the shop on the weekend I discovered it was no longer there.

I'll try uploading one again, and I'll send Tim a couple of different Avatars and see if we can get one of these working!

BTW Tim, I'm able to read the previous posts for a topic much better now with your new frame set up down the bottom.

Keep smiling

Jay... I understand that you want to have control over your avatar/s . I was curious to see if the same problem occurred when I uploaded the avatar as well. To ask some silly questions, the avatar does meet the requirements of the site. Ie, no more than 80x80 pixels, and no larger than 6KBs? Not sure if there is any error message if the image doesn't fit these criteria. I'll give it a test and see what happens.

EDIT: Ok, just checked and an error message is displayed if the avatar doesn't meet the specs.

Is the cross small & read? If it's the one I'm thinking of, it means that the image can't be found. If it's a URL, maybe double check it's correct (copy it into the browser address bar and confirm it does load)

Also, what type of image is it? I assume it's a JPG or GIF?

Fastideo

As far as I'm aware, they meet the requirements to be uploaded. They are the right size and not too large. My original Avatar was a gif image. The 3 I emailed Tim are jpegs. The red x is a small cross. The same 'icon' that you get when it can't find the image. You guys should see the x on the site beside my posts as well.

Anyway, I've given Tim some Avatars to try for me. I'll keep an eye on the board and look forward to seeing what image I end up with. :)

Keep smiling

I tried to upload an avatar for myself, for you, tried again this time reading instructions, all no work.
I tried copying over the old avatars from the old server. Didn't appear.
I finally worked out the problem. I have now changed permissions, which were disallowing users to upload images and the forum correctly naming them.
All fixed now.
Jay you have one of the emailed images as an avatar, but you may now change it to any other.
Avatar images must still comply with file size <6k and image size <80px x 80px

Ok, it looks like Tim has selected an avatar for you. Sorry I wasn't able to help figure the problem out. Although, what is interesting is that between your last message being posted and the new avatar being loaded, I couldn't see the missing image icon.

hehe, Jay, I have 'borrowed' one of the ones that Tim didn't select for you, until I can get my black (ish) dragon pic suitably altered :)

Not a problem. You're most welcome. I just want to know why Tim decided on an Avatar that looks like a Christmas bauble for himself?!?!?!??!?!?!?! :o

At least we know it's working for other people to upload Avatars now as well.

Keep smiling

I liked the tomato sauce bottle, but the new avatar should give the hint that I am a whitefella.
