Book 1 of Soldier Son
It was with great anticipation that I began to read book one in this new trilogy by Robin Hobb. The first few chapters were filled with interest and promise as I began to read about Nevare Gerar's home life and background. Then as he settled into life at the King's Cavalry Acedemy, I found the story almost repetative, at times a little confusing, tedious and bogged down. Many of the characters at the acedemy were difficult to sort out and I found them somewhat confusing.
This first book is set in a more modern era than her previous trilogies. It has not got the excitment and anticipation generated by her other books, nor the mystery and fantasy that I expected. But with an author of this standing, book two in the series will be eagerly awaited.
